Frequently Asked Questions
The resin barrel of the 164 Ballpoint seems to love to crack where it meets the upper barrel of the pen... even if you make sure not to overtighten it!
To compound the problem, Montblanc not only asks for an exorbitant fee to "repair" the barrel, but they also state that they will need your ballpoint pen for up to 8 weeks!
Considering the fact that "repairing" the barrel consists of unscrewing the old one and screwing on a replacement, that seems bit out-of-hand. I feel this is a much better option!

This is the most frequent question when it comes to replacement parts for the Montblanc. It's no wonder, they intermix numbers and words for their pens, so it's quite difficult to sort out what is what!
There are two common sizes of Mont blanc ballpoint pen: The 164 (Classique) and the 161 (LeGrand). The LeGrand is noticeably larger than a standard size pen (about an male index finger in width) , while the 164 is the more common, standard size pen (around a male pinky finger)
This barrel replacement is for the Montblanc Classique 164 Ballpoint. If your pen is approximately 10-11mm thick on the barrel, then you have a Classique 164!
