The 0.5mm thin board is light and flexible enough to keep things compact and clean, yet sturdy enough to act as a backing behind your page, making your lines cleaner and crisper. A dark green with a contrasting yellow 5mm grid, the shitajiki not only allows you to write straight and clean on unlined pages, but also helps hide the ghosting from the ink on the opposite pages.
  • THIN YET STRONG — Only 0.5mm thick, it is sturdy enough to act as backing while writing, without lifting or stretching the paper.
  • NO MORE GHOSTING — The dark green color of the pencil board means that dark writing on the other side of the page doesn't show through and distract you while writing.
  • GRIDS AND GUIDELINES — Perfect for writing on blank or dotted paper, the 5mm grid allows you to have clean and straight writing without needing permenant lines on the page.

Frequently Asked Questions
Over the years, I have gotten quite a few questions from pen owners like you about my various products. Here are some of the most frequently asked questions, and my answers.

A "Shitajiki" — also known as a "pencil board" — is a simple, yet ingenious invention from Japan. I found out about it years ago, and I am credited with making them more well known in the community and over in the United States... How exciting!

The Shitajiki is used with your notebook or journal and goes behind the sheet of paper you are currently writing on (It can also be used with a single sheet).

There are a couple of benefits: First, it drastically reduces "ghosting," or when you are able to see the distracting writing from the opposite side of the paper. Secondly, it stops your pen from embossing the subsequent sheets of paper, as well as drastically improves the feel of the pen or pencil gliding on the paper. Third, it creates an almost imperceptible line to help guide you as you write.

Oh, and it also acts as a straight-edge, a ruler, a bookmark, and the upcoming version will also have an "at-a-glance" section with conversion tables and so on!
Short answer: At the moment, I have two sizes available. They are standard sizes that almost every journal is made in: A5 (148 x 210mm) and A6 (105 x 150mm). A quick measure will confirm which of these sizes will fit your notebook.

As I've joked before with other products, the reason comes down to the fact that I am an enthusiast just like you — and I use the products myself!

One of the main benefits you are looking for when using a Shitajiki (Pencil Board) is the reduction of ghosting... You've likely dealt with it before: it's the irritating situation when you are able to see the distracting writing from the other side. White actually amplifies the issue with ghosting! I chose this color because it ends up hiding the most colors of ink!
Again, because I use them myself and I knew what is really needed in a Pencil Board!

The few pencil boards out there are made using stock, 1mm thick material. That sounds thin, but it's twice as thick as the Ultimate Pencil Board! Once they are in the notebook, they wedge themselves into the are where the sheets meet the spine and begin to stretch and warp them. At the same time, they make the notebook rigid and thick, like having a bar of metal jammed in there!

the benefit of a properly sized Shitajiki means you area also able to use the flex to your advantage and easily draw curves and smooth, sweeping lines!
